Cosmetology Department FAQs
Where do I get books and supplies for my classes?
What classes do I need to take?
Is there a mandatory New Student Orientation?
All new SMC Cosmetology, Esthetician & Manicuring students MUST attend a mandatory orientation. Orientations begin at 4:15 p.m. on select dates (check the Calendar for dates and times) and are held in the Business Building / Cosmetology Department (Room 143B). No appointment necessary, walk ins are welcomed!
Please be advised, due to Department closure because of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), New Student Orientations will take place via ZoomVideo Conferencing until furthur notice. Links are within the calendar event description.
If you have any questions, please email Ray at valdiviezo_raymond@smc.edu.
What if a class I need is closed?
You will need to go on to Corsair Connect and log in.
Under the enrollment section on the left bar navigation you will find links for "Request a Class," "Open Seat Notification List," and "Wait for a Class."
"Request a Class" is a form that you will fill out that would help SMC determine if additional classes should be opened for the term you are trying to enroll in a specific class for. It is specifically an option for you if you NEED to get into a class that is full or that has been canceled. You are allowed to request up to four (4) courses per semester.
"Open Seat Notification List" is for you to receive "Open Seat Alert" email notifications whenever a seat becomes available in a class that is currently full/closed.
"Wait for a Class" is for classes that are full/closed, adding yourself into the WAIT LIST of a class will INCREASE YOUR CHANCES of getting into the class whenever a seat becomes available. Being in the class WAIT LIST however, DOES NOT GUARANTEE you a seat in the class. Keep in mind, the link for "Wait for a Class" will NOT appear in Corsair Connect until TWO weeks prior to the start of the term.
If the class is still full and you are unable to enroll in the class you need by the start of the term, you can attempt to "crash the class." In order to crash a closed class (all spaces in the class are filled), you must attend the first class meeting. Let the instructor know you are not enrolled and wish to “crash” the class, either via e-mail or when you physically show up to the scheduled class date and time.
